The owner of the Musa Radio and TV company in Puerto Plata, Waldito Musa, has announced that the TV distribution companies in Puerto Plata and Sosúa (De Lancer) will soon be merged, which will allow the number of TV channels to be expanded to 300. However, clients will need a digital receiver box to watch all these channels. The channel numbers may need to be modified slightly, because the local channels (3 and 10) are currently already in use. Channel 12 (now CNN) will also be changed to another number. Eventually, the analogue receiver boxes will be phased out and everyone will have to pay for a digital box.
