On Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter weekend, Christians commemorate the joyful entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.
Hundreds of parishioners of the parish of St. Anthony of Padua held a procession with palm branches in their hands, along the beach of Sosúa.
Parishioners celebrate Palm Sunday
The procession ended at the church in Charamicos where Father Bernardo Vásquez and Father Benito read the Passion of Jesus.
In the Catholic Church, Palm Sunday is traditionally celebrated with the blessing of palm branches at the beginning of the Mass.
The priest blesses and sprinkles the palms with holy water.
After the blessing starts a procession with traditional songs that remind of the people that shouted 'Hosanna' to welcome Jesus to Jerusalem.
On Good Friday, Jesus was rejected by the same people.
The people who shouted 'Hosanna' on Sunday shouted 'crucify Him' on Friday.
After the Mass, the blessed palm branches were taken home by the parishioners to put them next to the crucifixes.
