Thursday evening, August 28 real estate broker Juan Perdomo spoke in Kaffe restaurant in Puerto Plata.
He expressed, in the presence of the commander of the Tourist Police General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou and other notables, his concern about the ongoing crime and prostitution present in Sosúa and Cabarete.
He recalled that the first source of income is tourism and that the money Dominicans abroad send home is the second source of income for the Dominican Republic.
Therefore, it is important that tourists feel safe when visiting Sosúa and Cabarete.
Mr. Perdomo spoke to those present in his capacity as a board member of the Association for Sustainable Development of Sosúa (ADSSosúa).
He plead that safety should be improved and prostitution moved to another place, far away from the city center.
Juan Perdomo
Prostitution attracts drug-related crime.
According to Mr. Perdomo, families need to be able to walk down the street safely both day and evening.
If crime and prostitution are not tackled, eventually the tourists stay away and the main source of income for Sosúa and Cabarete is in danger.
