Some 400 participants of the literacy course 1st module recently marched from Colegio Luis Hess in Pedro Clisante to the amphitheater of Casa Marina.
All participants were adorned with orange sash imprinted with 'Quisqueya Aprende Contigo'.
Which means: the entire Dominican population learns with you.
The 400 students had thus successfully completed the first phase of the literacy course.
Quisqueya Aprende Contigo
One of the students came forward and said that this course gave participants access to the world.
From the darkness into the light.
As proof of this, she wrote on a large blackboard, "I'm Dominican and my name is Silverio Antonio Espinal".
Her demonstration was rewarded with loud applause.
At the solemn ceremony heads of different schools in Sosúa and Cabarete, mayor Ilana Neumann, the provincial governor, representatives of the central government and churches were present.
The Literacy plan entitled 'Quisqueya Aprende Contigo' was established by order of President Danilo Medina.
This program is based on the collaboration of thousands of volunteers and commitment.
The aim is that after the 1st phase, at least 85% of the registered illiterates learn to read and write at a basic level and this has now been achieved.
This is a great achievement that all participants and volunteers can be proud of.
