On Sunday, May 15th, 2016 elections will be held in the Dominican Republic.
Municipalities, provincial governments, members of Congress and the new president will be elected.
In Sosúa several politicians prepare themselves to be chosen as alderman or even as mayor.
The editors of Sosúa-News will introduce candidates for mayor of the main political parties.
Melania Guzmán Concejal is currently alderwoman in the city council.
She is candidate for mayor of Sosúa for her party 'Partido Revolucionario Moderno' (PRM).
She has lived an extended time abroad, in France and therefore speaks very good French.
For that she also has a more international look at developments.
If she is elected mayor, she wants to improve contacts with foreign investors (bars/restaurants and hotels and real estate entrepreneurs) in Sosúa.
Many foreigners have been living here for 20 to 30 years and are rarely consulted by politics.
That's why she wants to see a representative of the foreigners in the municipal council.
The closure and later opening to traffic of the Pedro Clisante is an example for that.
That happened without consulting those involved, which should, according to Melania, be done different in the future.
She thinks Sosúa should be divided in two zones in the future.
A part where families can go with children in cozy bars and restaurants.
And an area with nightclubs and bars for nightlife.
Pedro Clisante must be transformed into an attractive pedestrian area with palm trees, decorative lighting and paving.
The council should pay more attention to the garbage disposal, paving (holes and pits) and safety.

Sosúa has much to offer according to Melania Guzmán.
It has a beautiful beach with a nice bay, international cuisine, cultural events, bars and nightclubs.
In cooperation with foreign entrepreneurs these opportunities should be developed further.
Everyone's contribution and support is essential.
Melania wants to contact representatives of foreign entrepreneurs in the near future.
