Please, for Sharina!

Patty Lacey (Jolly Roger) and myself (Angie Wolff) visited Sharina, at her house in La Union, to get an update as to her condition and her needs. We were happy to see that her condition continues to improve but she still has many procedures in her future. All things considered she was in relatively good spirits and happy to be out of the Hospital. Thanks to all for their donations and well wishes to get her to this point.
As many are aware, Sharina suffered profound damage to her legs when the concrete sign from Helados Bon fell from the roof hitting parade spectators on the street. Sharina was hit from behind and suffered damage to her back (thankfully just cuts and bruises) and her legs were crushed at the knees. A 10-hour surgery ensued in Bournigal Clinic and the doctors joined tendons, veins and inserted seven temporary pins to stabilize the legs. A second emergency surgery was required to relieve a blockage. Due to the skill and dedication of the doctors Sharina’s legs did not require amputation. The total bill was $714,736.20RD.
Sharina was then moved to San Isidro Military Hospital in Santo Domingo. This hospital is for Military personnel and has doctors highly skilled in this type of orthopedic trauma. Normally Sharina would not qualify for care in this hospital but Ilana Neumann, Sosúa's Mayor, made some calls to get Sharina admitted, we thank Ilana! At San Isidro Hospital many expenses such as, daily room fees, some medicine and analysis are not charged which is a great help. There are still many expenses that the family is responsible for. Much of the medicine prescribed, prosthesis and materials (such as the pins) for surgery and many of the laboratory tests are not free and the family must pay for. The hospital takes blood samples etc. gives them to Sharina's Mother who then brings them to laboratories in Santo Domingo, not only does she pay the lab work she must also pay taxies (San Isidro is closer to the airport than Santo Domingo, some days she pays more than $4,000RD in taxis). Sharina must return to the hospital April 18th for her next surgery, this one will remove the temporary pins and put in new (very expensive) pins. Further surgeries are needed to address the damage to the bones.
It was great to meet Sharina; she is a sweet, non-demanding and unbelievably brave young lady. She is bed ridden and cannot even enjoy the simplest luxuries such as sitting on the toilet. She is in quite a bit of pain but still gives a smile. She does not ask for much, she watches movies that a friend downloads daily on her laptop, listens to music or watches TV. When I asked her about Internet she told us they could not afford it, when I asked if she would like it she gave us a tentative smile that said clear as day she would really like that! Maybe someone will be able to help her with that...

Many people have been asking how they can help, what does Sharina need? We still are far from having a clear idea on how much Sharina's total treatment cost will be but the doctor’s estimate that it could run between $3,000,000 RD ($70,000 US) to $4,000,000 RD ($90,000 US) or more. They cannot give definitive projections until they see how Sharina is healing. We expect the next surgery to cost a minimum of $1,000,000 RD ($23,000US) as the pins must come from the USA and are costly, when the doctor's review the x-rays in three weeks time they will know more. We still wish to be prepared and collect the funds so that there is not a mad scramble at the time of the surgery. There is a bill at San Isidro at the moment but they have not given it to the family yet.
If anybody can help with Sharina's needs, either through donations of medicine, materials, or money to buy the items listed below that Sharina requires daily for the next month, it would be greatly appreciated:
Tramakin - (painkiller) 3x/day
Levofloxacina 750 mg - (antibiotics) 2x/day
