Last week, in many cities of the Dominican Republic, neighborhood organizations demonstrated against the rampant corruption practices of public officials.
Demonstraties in Puerto Plata
Also in Puerto Plata hundreds of members of neighborhood committees have held a protest demonstration on the Town Hall Square (la Plaza Independencia).
They protested particularly against dubious judgments in lawsuits in which defendants were acquitted of persecution while there was convincing evidence of their guilt.
The protesters had signs with them on which they accused government officials of corruption and lawlessness.
According to the signs, the Dominican Republic is a 'paradise of impunity'.
