Victor Belén is an artist and has his studio around the corner at the Checkpoint bar in Sosúa.
He is an excellent painter and sculptor.
But he also spends a lot of time drawing cartoons.
They are caricatures to make fun of the behavior of government officials.
Many of these cartoons have been published in several national newspapers.
In his cartoons stars 'Masango El Taino' a fantasy figure.
Masango el Taino is a Taino Indian, so a member of the original inhabitants of the island which have all been massacred by the Spaniards and exotic diseases.
Victor uses his Taino figure to criticize humorously the misconduct of the police, lawyers and politicians.
And now he has been commissioned by the Ministry of Tourism to create a short animated film about the life of the Taino Indians.
They already have made a recording studio available in Sosúa.

If the short version of the cartoon is successful, a follow-on order for a mini-series about the life of the Taino Indians could be commissioned.
This of course with the title 'Masango el Taino.
The Ministry of Tourism has made 700,000.00 pesos available for these projects.
However, to complete this highly labor-intensive task, at least a million pesos is needed.
For each second 15 animated cartoons should be drawn and photographed.
For animated films of Walt Disney, for example, teams of several hundred employees and cartoonists work for months to create it.
Victor has to do it all alone.
For the missing amount of 300,000.00 pesos Victor wants to ask entrepreneurs in Sosúa and mayor Ilana Neumann for support.
It will be a great promotion project for Sosúa and the entire community can benefit from it.
A Santo Domingo TV station will broadcast the short animated film as well as the miniseries (which can also be seen in Sosúa) in due time.
