Bill Passmore, owner of 'Sosúa Diving', took the initiative for a major dive site clean-up on June 1.
Bill (Canadian) received full cooperation from the other diving schools.
Also many volunteers came forward wanting to contribute to the clean-up.
Sosúa dive site clean-up
The beach of the Bay of Sosúa is kept clean by the owners of bars, restaurants and shops every day.
But the areas around it are very polluted with litter.
Also, some coral reefs close to the shoreline of the ocean are full of all sorts of waste, mostly plastic waste.
For example, the mouth of the river Sosúa is a real dump.
To preserve the still existing rich nature including beautiful coral reefs, keeping the beach and ocean clean is of vital importance.
Mayor Ilana Neumann has also pledged her full cooperation and provides a garbage truck.
The clean-up starts on June 1 at 8 o'clock in the morning.
The diving schools will clean up the dive sites in the ocean, the volunteers are deployed mainly for the cleaning of beaches.
The day ends at 6 o'clock in the afternoon at the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar.
The owner of the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar is also the sponsor of this project.
The idea is that in the near future, every first Monday of the month, they will do another clean-up.
To improve Sosúa and make it more pleasant and enjoyable for both residents and visitors.
