Coming from Sosúa, just past Cabarete, at the slight bend to the right, Kite Beach is located.
At high tide the ocean water reaches the outer walls of the hotels and restaurants at the beach.
With sandbags and cement blocks the owners of the businesses try to keep the rising water at bay.
It is caused by a gulf stream which flows precisely along this stretch of coast and drags the beach sand, day in and day out, in the ocean.
This effect is reinforced by the ever-present winds that create extra powerful pounding waves from the ocean.
This is the ever-blowing wind that makes Cabarete so famous for water sports enthusiasts.
According to experts, for the problem of beach erosion, there is a fairly easy remedy.
A dam must be built to bend the gulf stream.
This results in a change in flow resulting in beach accretion.
The dam, or pier can then also be used as a tourist attraction.

On the pier souvenir shops, seafood restaurants and the like can be located.
It will also be an ideal place for fishing enthusiasts.
The entrepreneurs of Cabarete are already prepared to contribute in the costs.
We are now waiting for the government (municipal government and the Ministry of Tourism).
But it can be fatal to wait any longer, the water is indeed already at the front door of these businesses.
