The prominent journalist Danny Alcantara reported Monday morning in his TV show Today (ColorVision Channel 9) that some taxi drivers abuse the ignorant cruise ship passenger.
These taxi drivers impose themselves to the passenger and charge them with abnormally high fares.

They charged $ 70 for a ride from Maimón (cruise harbor) to the center of Puerto Plata.
The police also removed approximately seventy ambulant trinkets sellers because of their aggressive way of offering their wares to the tourists.
The vendors plea not guilty and they say that they feel hampered by the police in carrying out their sales activities.
Also, some souvenir shops and restaurants seem to charge 30 to 40% more to cruise ship passengers.
The journalist Danny Alcantara called on the Ministry of Tourism to investigate these practices, then act strictly and impose high fines.
If not, said Danny Alcantara, we will kill the goose that lays golden eggs.
