Yesterday, Thursday, May 26 was a public holiday in the Dominican Republic, and therefore also in Sosúa.
This day 'Dia Corpus Christi' is celebrated, or rather honored.
'Dia Corpus Christi' was promulgated by Pope Urbanus IV in September 1264.
It is the belief of the incomprehensible phenomenon that bread can change into the body of Christ.
The celebration started with a procession through the streets of Charamicos.
This was followed by a Mass led by Father Bernardo Vásquez.
So Thursday was a day off, a day without work, and for many, Friday was added so everyone can enjoy a very nice long weekend.
