The authorities of the Environment Service (Medio Ambiente) in collaboration with the Senpa soldiers (Servicio Nacional de Protección Ambiental) have in recent days arrested illegal loggers.
It is about the primeval forest in the headwaters of the river Sosúa in the district of Bellavista.
This forest is rich in slow-growing trees like Mahogany.
Mahogany and caoba wood is very durable and very expensive and therefore very popular among the illegal loggers.
Soldiers arrested not only illegal loggers, but also confiscated the felled trees.
