The cable car (El Teleférico) to Mount Isabel de Torres in Puerto Plata will be closed for the annual maintenance from Mondy October 10 until Thursday October 20.
The cable car was built in 1975 by the Italian company Ceretti-Tanfanni and also the maintenance is (fortunately) in the hands of the company.
We do recommend a trip by cable car to anyone, because during the ride up, you can enjoy a wonderful view over Puerto Plata.
At the top you'll see a little church with a huge statue of Jesus Christ standing with his arms spread wide.
It's fun for the tourists to pose in front of the statue and have their picture taken.
There are also some very nice walks among lush vegetation.
It's a real nature park with the most beautiful flowers, plants and trees.
If you are visiting Puerto Plata it is certainly worthwhile making the trip with the cable car, or as it is called here, 'El Teleférico'.
El Teleférico
But it's best to go on a clear day when there are no clouds.
If you're lucky enough to be on the top of the mountain on a clear day then you'll have a wonderful view over Puerto Plata and the bay.
Then you can imagine why Columbus was so impressed by the natural harbour in the shadow of this mighty mountain.
