Thousands of shoppers during Black Friday
During Black Friday it was very busy in Puerto Plata. Almost all the shops and stores had lowered the prices of most products by 20% to 50%. For example supermarket La Sirena and fashion store Jiménez were stormed by shoppers. In La Sirena sales of large screen TV's, microwaves, refrigerators and washing machines went sky-high. In Jiménez it were mostly sales of shoes and new clothes bought for Christmas and the New Year. Also, many residents of Sosúa went to Puerto Plata because the prices here were even lower than in Sosúa.

But in Sosúa there were also many shops with special offers. The Damary's Fashion store in Pedro Clisante for example came with special offers. Even some restaurants and bars participated with discounts of 30% on their beers and Cuba Libres. Some buyers told us in confidence that many people buried themselves up to their necks in debt for these purchases. Only once a year you have a change for such a windfall, only on Black Friday.
