During the holidays (Christmas and New Year's Eve) volunteers of the Civil Guard (Defensa Civil) of Sosúa helped out controlling traffic.
The volunteers with flags guarded various dangerous intersections to direct traffic in the right direction.
They stood at the crossroads of Charamicos, Supermercado Playero and Supermercado Pola.
Héctor Vásquez (La Defensa Civil)
Every year there are many serious road casualties during the holidays.
This year 46 people died and many more wounded in traffic accidents in the country during the Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations.
But due to the Civil Guard, in Sosúa fortunately there were no victims.
The Civil Guard (la Defensa Civil de Sosúa), with Héctor Vásquez as chairman was established in 1998.
The guard consists of unpaid volunteers who are committed to serve the community.
They do beach service on the beach of Sosúa, assist the traffic police during holidays as Semana Santa, Christmas and New Year.
Also at disasters such as floods from heavy rains the guard is present to save furniture and human lives.
