But Sunday night, the north coast was hit by a strong storm with heavy winds.

In Puerto Plata several roofs were torn and blown away from houses.
In La Piedra, a part of Charamicos in Sosúa, a dozen houses have been destroyed by the crashing waves and gusts.
The damage to the houses was also caused by uprooted trees and heavy branches that fell on the houses.
The volunteers of the civil guard and military air force were quickly at the scene to provide assistance to the victims.
