Monday February 20 we heard that Herman Strauss died of a cardiac arrest during a nap in the afternoon at his home in Sosúa.
Herman Strauss would soon be 80 years old.
The Strauss family was among the first Jewish refugees who were given a safe haven in Sosúa in the early 40s of the last century.
Herman Strauss grew up in Sosúa and carried out many social functions in town.
He committed himself to the community of Sosúa and surroundings.

Among other things, he was the driving force behind the 'Rotery Club' and 'La Asociasión para el Desarrollo de Sosúa'.
He had his own foundation 'Strauss Foundation' which supported poor families with food (Christmas gifts), building materials and school supplies.
Until his retirement Herman Strauss was director of the Productos Sosúa factory.
A dairy and meat products factory founded by the Jewish community.
The factory was known among the people for its social commitment for their workers.
In recent years Herman Strauss lived a somewhat secluded life because his health deteriorated.
Herman Strauss passed away and will be missed.
Don Herman Strauss will be buried in the family grave in the Jewish cemetery of Sosúa Wednesday February 22.
