The data on the occupancy rate of hotels in the first three months of 2017 have recently been published.
This shows that Puerto Plata is doing great.
The renovation of the historic center of the port city, the many events like concerts, carnival, merengue festival, patronales and above all the arrival of cruise ships have made Puerto Plata very attractive to the visitor.
Anfiteatro de la Puntilla, Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata is rated at first place in the Dominican Republic with an occupancy rate of 90%.
Boca Chica-Juan Dolio (87,7%) is second and Punta Cana / Bavaro third with 87.1% occupancy.
Sosúa and Cabarete must be satisfied with 80.1%.
In Sosúa the smaller hotels have done much better in these three months.
Hotel Don Andres and hotel Voramar for example, had an occupancy rate of almost 100%.
Santo Domingo is last with only 65.3%.
In the coming months, the influx of tourists will surely be less because of the low season.
But in July and August and then in October, November and December the rates are expected to increase again.
