For months there have been protests throughout the country against the rampant corruption in the country.
The thousands of participants in these marches are dressed in green, walk with green umbrellas, and the marches are called green marches.
Protests against corruption continue
There have been marches held in Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega and Santo Domingo.
Yesterday, Sunday, June 4, a mass protest march in Santiago was held at which also many Sosúa and Cabarete residents participated.
The protests are not only against corruption, but also against nepotism, and the ever growing crime wave.
At the march the people carried signs with inscriptions like:
stop nepotism and giving away lucrative jobs to relatives and political friends.
Stop impunity.
Thieves go free for stealing a million and a thief of a chicken has to go to jail for 10 years.
The people apparently had enough of it and require government measures against these excesses.
