Friday October 6 there was a grand merengue concert in the amphitheater at the Malecón of Puerto Plata.
Entrance to this concert was free.
Several thousand mostly young Dominicans and a few tourists gratefully used this opportunity for a night out.
First Kiko el Presidente with his Merengue Tipico band performed.
Next it was Fefita La Grande's turn.
The wildly popular elderly Meregue Tipico interpreter brought the audience in ecstasy.
Although this artist is about 80 years old, she still moves smoothly on stage and manages to ravish the audience.
100 years Merengue
100 years Merengue
She was followed by Wilfrido Vargas and Johnny Ventura, the former mayor of Santo Domingo with his slogan: Mammi Rica.
This was pure mambo.
To end the evening Kinito Méndez brought a spectacular show on stage.
Besides his popular Merengue music, he performed some songs of Haitian influences.
It was almost a Voodoo show.
The audience loved it.
The show ended at half past one.
It was a great evening with good music and for free.
Soon El Torito (Bachata and Merengue) will do a performance at the amphitheater in Puerto Plata.
As soon as we know more about it, we will of course let you know in Sosúa-News.
