Chairman Bernardo Polanco of the fishermen association in Sosúa (La Asociación de Pescadores) complains about the proliferating illegal fishing off the coast of Sosúa to the authorities.

In the coming months for instance, it is forbidden to catch lobster or crab.
It is spawning time for these animals and they need the opportunity to preserve their species.
A number of fish species is now protected and can not be fished either.
Because of this protection these animals have a rest period and that way the population can recover again.
But criminal illegal fishermen do not respect these rest periods and catch everything that moves off the coast of Sosúa.
Bernardo Polanco now strongly urges the government to take action against these illegal fishermen.
