'It was worth it' Ángel Sosa
Ángel Sosa, better known as 'the man with the cross' or 'the pilgrim from Dajabón', is now a happy man.
As a result of his pilgrimage, when he carried a heavy wooden cross across the country to the palace of President Leonel Fernández in Santo Domingo, the completely neglected roads around Dajabón have now been given a new layer of asphalt.
Ángel made his pilgrimage last year, in August, when it took him 11 days to walk the 300 kilometres.
During that time he was forced to stop for two days when he was hospitalised in La Vega with ill health.
'The crusader' is delighted to see that the President is now keeping his promises.

The road is currently being asphalted and within a week it will be ready for traffic.
'The pilgrim from Dajabón' emphasised that Dajabón is a border town where markets are held twice a week, and where thousands of Haitians and Dominicans buy and sell their wares.
The town plays an important role for the farmers and smallholders throughout the area, and many households obtain their income through this trade.
This is why the new road is so important for thousands of Dominican and Haitian families.
