The central legal department and the traffic police (La Fiscalia del Districto Nacional y la Autoridad Metroplitana de Transporte), in the person of Alejandro Moscoso Segarra and the Director of AMET, José Aníbal Sanz Jimánian, have announced last Wednesday that they will act fierce against traffic violations.

Speeding, street racing, driving through red traffic lights and driving without a license or documents, will be punished with high fines and can even lead to imprisonment.
In the future it will also be prohibited to drive a motorcycle with more than two persons.
Particular thing about this press conference was however, there was explicitly mentioned that police officers and officials of the military will also be fined, but even more fierce than the civilians.
It is often the case that officers drove without headlights, drove through red lights, against traffic, drunk driving or with more than two persons on a motorcycle.
Also from know on it will be prohibited to drive confiscated vehicles for private use.
