The Carnival organising committee in Puerto Plata (UCAPPLATA) recently announced at a public meeting, to which the press was invited, that this year's carnival would start on Sunday 7 February, and continue until Sunday 21 March.
Activities will be organised every weekend between these dates, at various locations.
For example, an exhibition of carnival costumes will be held in the Culture House (Casa de Cultura) on Sunday 7 February, followed by the election of this year's Carnival King and Queen.
These elections will take place from 7pm onwards, on the town by the Town Hall (la Plaza Independencia).
Various events will take place on the following weekends, including parades and live musical entertainment.
The sponsors of the 2010 carnival include Brugal Rum, Presidente Beer and Orange.
However, the town's Mayor, Walter Musa, has also contributed 200,000 pesos.
Carnival in Puerto Plata
So, what is Sosua organising for Carnival?
We're hoping that the local authority and the business community will come up with some kind of initiative.
For a tourist town such as Sosúa, this kind of traditional folklore-based event, with its rich history, could be a special attraction that will bring more tourists to the town.
