El Nuevo Simply Red Restaurant opened in late November 2009.
Run by Filipe from Belgium who speaks seven languages and will give you a wonderful warm welcome.
The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is still evolving and needs some work but the food brings new flavours to the restaurant scene in Sosúa.
There is an extensive menu of international style food and the restaurant does Dominican lunches.
Open all days of the week from 11:30 am to 11:30 pm, there are three covered areas to the restaurant - the dining area with mahogany tables with comfortable chairs seating up to 20, the lunch restaurant and a dance floor area that is currently unused.
The restaurant is within walking distance of the centre of Sosúa.
The menu has five 'Entradas' ranging from mixed salad to 'Camarones Diabolico' priced from reasonable to expensive.
There are three soups and 'Pescado' soup which was freshly made, is shown below.
The 'Ensalada de Frutas con Jamon Proscuittio', another 'entrada' is shown too.
This was quite a refreshing starter and quite a large portion.
There are an extensive list of main course dishes, including carnes, mariscos and pescados, five different Pastas dishes and five different fish on the menu- Mero, Dorado, Salmon and Tuna and Chillo.
Shown here is chicken in an orange sauce with vegetables and 'filete de cerdo con salsa curry' served with french fries.
The meal was nicely presented and tasty.
Fresh garlic bread is served with the meal and included in the price.
There is a good range of 'postres' or desserts as well.
There is a good selection of wines and sparkling wines on the menu and wine is available by the glass.
The prices are not too expensive for some quite good wines.
There is an extensive selection of liquor and rums including Barcelo Grand Platino and Imperial Reserve.
Belgian beers feature in this bar together with a wide range of local and international brands.
An extensive list of cocktails and aperitivos are served here too at moderate prices.
The service is variable depending on whether Filipe is there or not.
It is good when he is there but slow and poor other times.
The restaurant has not yet developed its ambiance but has potential to be good.
The menu is fairly extensive and some of the dishes are tasty and interesting which sets this restaurant apart from some of the others in Sosúa.
It is worth a try for this reason alone but as a newly open restaurant it needs time to settle down.
Prices are in the medium range on the menu and do include taxes and gratuity.
Filipe speaks seven languages but the other staff speak Spanish, some English, and French.
Worth a visit in small groups for an interesting evening meal!

Had supper here on June 1, 2010.
The food was excellent and very well presented.
Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive.
Food was freshly prepared which of course takes a few minutes extra compared to many restaurants who microwave already prepared food.
Quality food takes time.
Prices were reasonable compared to many other restaurants.
Staff were all friendly and gracious.
Our experience was excellent.
We would definitely recommend a visit here.
Didn't try the Belgian crepes.
Maybe another time!

During our 2 week holiday we visited many friendly, good quality restaurants in the Sosua area but this one by far the worst from every aspect.
After waiting 2 hours for our meal, it arrived cold!
Instead of an apology, the owner accused us of 'not wanting to pay' and went into a tirade of abuse and called the police.
We left with 7 out of 11 people not touching the food.
I would advise everyone to avoid this restaurant as when we were leaving, we saw 2 children under the age of 12, working in the kitchen at 10.45 at night!
