The municipal council of Sosúa has carried out a cleaning action at the old municipal cemetery following complaints from the population.
The old municipal cemetery was neglected.
That is why the Sosúa municipal council has carried out a clean-up and renovation of the cemetery.
Cemetery cleaning action
The initiative was promoted by Councilor Wellington Padilla, who formally requested intervention from Mayor Wilfredo Olivences.
The motion was supported by City Council President Fausto Santos, Vice President Chissell Hernández and Councilors Francisco Martínez (Cholo) and Rafael Almonte, who supported the proposal and participated in its implementation.
John, the caretaker, was commended for his support of this effort to improve the dignity of the cemetery.
This cemetery was struggling with rubble, weeds and neglected buildings.
Councilman Willy Padilla announced that he will propose a complete renovation of the cemetery as an agenda item at the next city council meeting.

After receiving a complaint, CORAAPPLATA (Corporación de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata's water company) took immediate action to resolve an issue related to a damaged water pipe.
There was quite a bit of flooding near the stairs leading to the beach of Sosúa.
Particularly in the section between Los Charamicos and El Batey.
The intervention required heavy equipment and trained technical personnel, who replaced the damaged pipeline.
This situation raised concerns among residents and passers-by about water waste and deteriorated road surfaces in an area recently renovated by the city council.
Water leak resolved, but…
It is noteworthy that CORAAPPLATA had already repaired this section several months earlier to fix a water leak.
This raises concerns in the community about the quality of the solutions applied.
Do we have to prepare for the next leak?

Sosúa still has no police station, only a small temporary office on Pedro Clisante street.

And it doesn't get any better now that EDENORTE, the electricity company, has cut off the power supply to the office.
The closure is causing surprise and outrage in the community, reported Ángel, a representative of the Dominican Committee for Human Rights in the municipality of Sosúa and the province of Puerto Plata.
The facilities of the National Police Departmental Command and the DICRIM Unit, in the El Batey district, are now without power.
The building houses not only the administrative offices, but also the dormitories for police officers from other provinces.
The lack of electricity therefore constitutes a serious attack on the dignity and minimum working conditions of security personnel.
Ángel described the situation as 'scandalous for Dominican society and for the municipality of Sosúa' and called on the competent authorities to investigate the matter and take measures to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

The Parque Mirador, located on the cul-de-sac of Sosúa opposite Playa Alicia, was very neglected.
Although this had already been reported to mayor Wilfredo Olivences and director of city planning, architect Nolberto Mota, nothing happened.
Until Saskia Brockman, together with Joilan Pérez and Mercedes Coste, together with a whole group of volunteers, took on the task of renovating the park.
They appealed to the public.
It's been almost a month since a whole group of volunteers came forward to help with cleaning, painting, electrical work and other jobs.
Other volunteers donated money to purchase electrical supplies, paint and other consumables.

But what was missing was the money to purchase the expensive materials, security and glazing of the park.
Finally, the mayor of the tourist municipality of Sosúa, Wilfredo Olivences, listened to the hearts of the people and ordered the renovation of Parque Mirador.
Then money became available to purchase expensive materials and completely renovate the park.
