We had already heard good reports from other tourists.
If you want to enjoy a terrific dinner in a stylish atmosphere and at a reasonable price, then you should visit "Het Kasteeltje" in Cabarete.
We went there on Saturday evening and were received very hospitably by Therese and Jan.
Therese is German and Jan is Dutch.
In the restaurant at "Het Kasteeltje"
We were lucky, apparently it was Happy Hour when we arrived, so the beer cost only 39,95 pesos.
Later on, when we asked for the bill, they gave us the 5 centavos change, but we left those with the tip.
Het Kasteeltje offers an extended menu, with a variety of meat dishes and (according to our friends) the chef also serves delicious fish dishes and shrimps.
On the sign at the entrance, the menu of the day contained one word: "Spareribs".
We choose the pork filet with mushrooms and fried potatoes.
It was a good choice, and was indeed delicious.
The potatoes were fried with bacon, which gives them a special aroma.
We have unfortunately forgotten the name of the red wine that accompanied the meal, but it was a very good wine: soft, fruity and not too tangy.
During dinner Jan stopped by for a friendly chat and then surprised us with a magic trick.
He manipulated a pile of coins just like an experienced magician and he made some peso bills vanish into thin air, only to have them return again undamaged afterwards.
It was funny and a real surprise.
The other guests also watched curiously, so Jan was asked to do the trick at the other tables too.
We had a very enjoyable evening and the diner was of a superb quality.
Above all, it was very affordable and that's what we like too, especially now that the peso is becoming more expensive again.
If you like to go out to dinner in pleasant surroundings, we recommend "Het Kasteeltje" in Caberete.
Jan the magician
It's very nice and clean and the kitchen offers German quality standards.
