The traffic police have not been making themselves very popular the past couple of weeks among road users.
The AMET has imposed fines of well over 215 million pesos this year throughout the country.
They pursue traffic offenders on a wide scale without disruption.
Traffic offenders who drive through the red lights, not wearing their seat belt, using mobile phones, not being in the possession of vehicle documents and driving a motorcycle without a helmet will be punished strictly.
Also in Sosúa traffic offenders have recently been pursued mercilessly.
At the police station more than 200 seized motorcycles are parked.
The new commander of the traffic police (AMET) in Sosúa, Freddy Martínez Agramonte said that they take this tough action against traffic offenders, because road traffic behaviour is appalling.
Above all motorcyclists cause many accidents each year, with serious injuries and even deaths.
The strict attitude is not for bullying the road users, but to improve traffic behaviour and therefore road safety.
The number of deaths must be reduced, and therefore irresponsible traffic behaviour must be punished severely.
The Motoconchos in Sosúa, however, were very annoyed by the traffic police.
Many drivers are now unemployed because the police has confiscated their bikes because they were not able to pay their fines.
Now they have no jobs and no income.
