A study conducted by the Office of Statistics (ONE) shows that 30.7% of children under 15 years do not have a birth certificate.

The construction of the new school
Without a birth certificate, children can not attend school, at a later age they can not vote, they can not obtain a passport and can not claim an inheritance.
The study also shows that it is primarily children (89.3%) from poor families.
Four organizations have joined hands to make a contribution for the construction of a school for these children.

It's 'Colour4Kids', 'Asher Foundation, a 'Canadian Faith Community' and the 'Stichting Help Sosúakids to School'.
The Dutch foundation 'Colour4Kids', has funds (25%) made available for the construction of the school.
The project leader of the foundation Mr. Hassan Taleï is currently in Sosúa to supervise the construction.
The Asher Foundation and the Canadian Faith Community are the main sponsors of the project and also do the operational management and organization of the school.
This means the appointment of teachers, domestic workers and payment of salaries and maintenance of the building.
But also provide the daily meals for the school children.
For many children, the school meal is the only meal they get that day.
Sylvia Berkley of the Dutch 'Stichting Help Sosúakids to School', as a small organization has a smaller role in the whole.
They coordinate between the various foundations and maintain contacts.
Thanks to the selfless efforts of many volunteers in Canada, the USA and the Netherlands soon (eventually) 650 children (with no birth certificate) can attend school and vocational educational.
