Between 25 April and 3 May, the Patronales celebrations take place at the Town Hall Square (Plaza la Independencia) in Puerto Plata. The Catholic parishioners celebrate Patronales every year during this period in the honor of their Patron Saint, the holy apostle San Felipe (Filippus). The celebrations start with a Holy Mass in the cathedral of San Pilipe at which all the notables of Puerto Plata will be present. Here the queen elected of Patronales will also be blessed by Monsignor Julio Cesar Corniel Amaro, Bishop of Puerto Plata. Then there is a large-scale parade through the streets of the port city. The next day there are various activities as performances of music, dance and theater groups. You will also have the opportunity to visit some exhibitions of visual artists.
