The traditional merengue festival, which takes place annually over a weekend in the capital, Santo Domingo, is this year scheduled on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Tourism and sponsored by Brugal, the rum manufacturer.
During the two day festival on various stages a number of nationally known bands will perform.
Among them: El Grupo Mio, Jeffrey, Diomedes & Joel Santos, Ramón Orlando, Vakeró, the Tourism Minsitry Folk Ballet, Los Potros, Poeta Callejero, Miriam Cruz, David Kada, Pochy Familia and the La Coco band.
