Several tourist organizations that promote Puerto Plata, have asked the central government to start the construction of a completely new highway between the north coast and Santiago (Cibao region).
The new highway to construct should be approximately 25 miles long.
This highway would run from the north side of the ring road from Santiago to Highway 5 at Puerto Plata.
It should be a four-lane highway open for public and freight traffic.
If this highway is constructed the travel time from Puerto Plata to Santiago would be reduced to only 30 minutes.
Not only the regional tourism organizations (including ADSS) ask for this highway, also national organizations.

It would be a further boost to tourism on the north coast and of course for Sosúa.
