The Samaritan foundation (la Fundación El Samaritano), an evangelical based foundation of Canadian origin, has been accused, in the weekly magazine El Faro, of building houses for illegal Haitians in Montellano.
This is a criminal offence and in addition they deny the so needy Dominican families of a free house.
The president of the city council in Sosúa, Mr Arismendy Medina responded indignantly to these allegations.
The Samaritan Foundation indeed builds, with gifts of believers from Canada and the USA, houses (also schools and churches) for the needy in and around Sosúa.
These houses are donated to homeless families who are of good conduct.
In addition to many poor Dominican families, they also donate to poor Haitian families.
There is an assessment committee to choose potential candidates for a free house on good behavior and their positive contribution to the community.
Houses of the Samaritans
The committee works closely with the local authorities of both Sosúa and Montellano.
So the Samaritan foundation does not obstruct the law, according to Arismendy Medina, that is completely untrue.
