Residents of the hamlets Bella Vista, Villa Enmanuel and Las Caobas are desperate because of the many cable thefts.
These communities belong to the municipality of Sosúa and are under protection of the National Police.
Copper thieves in Sosúa
The thieves main target are the copper power cables since that yield much per kilo.
The past few days entire communities have been deprived of electricity caused by these thefts.
The refrigerators do not work causing food to go bad and the fans for the necessary cooling don’t work either.
Sosúa is suffering under a heat wave so the residents suffer extra for these blackouts.
Both the commander of the air base as the commander of the National Police have agreed to help.
They have commissioned more frequent patrolling in the affected areas.
The electricity company has promised to replace the stolen cables faster.
