Wednesday March 1, two pilgrims from Villa Isabela left by donkey to the capital Santo Domingo to visit the palace of President Danilo Medina.
Monday March 6 they arrived at the palace where they were received by Deputy Minister Alejandra Liriano.
The two pilgrims, Wilkin Rafael Matías and Nazario Morillo who were thronged by many admirers, handed over a list of complaints and demands for their town Villa Isabela to the Deputy Minister.
The town of Villa Isabela is located near Puerto Plata and has perhaps suffered the most under the heavy rains of the past months.
Harvests have been lost, roads washed away, bridges and houses collapsed.
Although President Danilo Medina visited the town immediately after the disaster and promised immediate help to the victims, yet, nothing happened.
In the list of complaints they ask to repair the roads and the collapsed bridge.
The two pilgrims arrived at the palace
They also ask to start the construction of the previously promised hospital in Villa Isabela.
At present the medical assistance takes place in a converted home.
The list of complaints was submitted to the Deputy Minister Alejandra Liriano and she promised to bring the list to the president's attention.
The pilgrims expressed their hope that their days long arduous journey by mule has not been in vain and that their list of complaints will be taken seriously.
