Saturday afternoon, just past four, the Dancercise Marathon started at the sports hall of the International School in La Mulata, Sosúa.
The one and a half-hour dance exercise was led by Emely Watson, dance instructor and owner of the dance school affiliated to the International School.
There were about 150 interested people gathered for the dancercise.
But only 71 enthusiasts participated at the dance marathon.
Dancercise Marathon
Among them many children, teenagers and women.
There was only one man among them.
In contrast to the Zumba marathons, where an exhaustive gymnastic exercise is common, this dancercise marathon derives from dance moves of salsa, bachata, ballet, rumba and rock and roll.
Emely doing the dance moves, supported by appropriate music, on stage, and the participants just have to copy these movements as good as possible.
One and a half hours of intensive dance moves is very tiring, and some of the participants left halfway the marathon.
Afterwards the diehards were rewarded with loud cheers and applause.
A jury judged all the dancers on elegance and accurate imitation of the movements of Emely.
The three winners (child, teen and adult) were awarded on stage a trophy and loud applause.
The Marathon was sponsored by Mark Sadree.
