'Puerto Plata digital', represented by Vicente Silverio, has asked the local authority representatives in Puerto Plata if they are aware that beautiful century-old trees are being felled in the town's central park?
Both engineer Félix Bautista (Public Works Dept) and Mayor Walter Musa claim to have no detailed knowledge of the renovation plans for the central park.
They apparently did not know that these ancient trees, the pride of local residents, were due to be cut back.
Both dignitaries referred us to the federal government's Public Works Dept, which is responsible for the renovation plans for the park.
It's worth mentioning that felling century-old trees is not occurring just in Puerto Plata - in Imbert and Santo Domingo the government has cut down the most beautiful old trees, to the great disappointment and anger of the residents.
Protests in Santo Domingo
Protest actions have been held in the capital, to express people's objections to this practice.
Residents have chained themselves to these trees in order to prevent further felling.
The old trees are being replaced by fast-growing palm trees.
